Diving

The Zapata Peninsula is an idyllic playground for ecotourists and scuba divers. All the water surrounded this protective area, will be your diving zone for the week. So, you imagine what we are talking about, and count on us that we´ll continue our major efforts for more protection of the marine environment. Zapata area will be your base for the week, diving with fast diving skiffs from the live aboard Georgiana. This territory is characterized by both the presence of considerable peat depth and the fact that it is a low, flat area from the viewpoint of relief. Top height above sea level is only about 10 meters, while top depth in below-sea-level coastal zones is as follows: 2 meters in the salt-marsh area and from 1-600 meters in the sea coastal zone.

Cenote o Cueva de los peces Mar

A large number of sponges and corals can be seen, there is a sunken ship that gives the area a special attraction and it is also surrounded by a great variety of tropical fish.

Tarro de Venado

A colony of cup and tube sponges is significant; There are feather coral blooms and sea cucumber is abundant.

El Tanque

There are a large number of sponges; The apricot coral can be seen a few meters from the coastline and comes to the surface. The Santoyo crab and bighorn lobsters hide within the reef.

Alejo el Moro

You can see sponges and small fish; eye coral and brain coral appear in the form of heads.

Punta Perdiz

There is a sunken ship 22 meters deep that gives the area an exceptional appeal. There are cracks and tunnels in the wall and it descends in steps. A Venado jar coral barrier appears in the area and it begins at a depth of 3 meters. A red eye coral formation is very interesting. At this point you will be able to see a greater variety of fish than at the rest of the points.

Las Canas

The wall is one of the most preserved and beautiful in the region. Between the wall and the coast there are large numbers of conch (strombus gigas).

Jaruco

It is one of the deepest sites in the region. We recommend it for advanced divers since the diving is done on the wall that begins at a depth of 15 to 20 meters and reaches a depth of about 500 meters.

El Ebano

It is one of the best diving spots in the Zapata Peninsula; A huge canyon leads almost to the cliff wall and is an exceptional attraction for divers. Corals and sponges abound. You can see large fish, two anchors and snails. When we reach the end of the dive we enter a small U-shaped cave that starts at about 6 meters and reaches up to 9 meters deep where you can see small fish in abundance.

El Brinco 2 Mar

You can see a well-preserved Barrier Reef, abundant gorgonians, sponges and small tropical fish. Tunnels and cracks appear where lobsters and moray eels take refuge.

Caleta Buena

Well-preserved Barrier Reef; There is a flap and an underwater tunnel close to the coast. The yellowtail fish, the parrots and the carajuelo accompany the divers throughout the tour. Unlike the other points here you can dive by boat and from the coast.
